If you’ve been following my Flickr or Twitter, you’ll know that I’m currently in Vancouver both to visit my father as well as for the wedding of a longtime friend. The wedding was just yesterday and the weather was beautiful, the food was good and the bride was beautiful. Congratulations again, Sarah and Kevin!

Last weekend, though, I was in Whistler (a well known ski resort about two hours north of Vancouver) for the stagette party where we went ziplining – if you do have a chance to try it, it’s good fun! There are a series of cables running through the forest and you’re harnessed up and hooked up to these cables and slide down them at high speed thanks to gravity. I loved it!

For dinner before the night out, a table was booked at Araxi, run by the same group who own West in Vancouver, for our group. It’s quite a well known restaurant in Whistler and with a link to what is considered to be the best restaurant in Vancouver, I was looking forward to it.  The food was pretty good (we shared all the dishes from the prix fixe menu) but I would like to return again with a much smaller group to properly sample the menu.

That said, here are a few of the highlights from the meal:

A wild smoked salmon roll – a fusion style maki sushi.

BC Arctic char – served with potatoes and crosnes, that root vegetable that looks like maggots! The fish was very fresh with beautiful crispy skin.

Valrhona Chocolate Fondant – sure it might be a cliched dessert but it definitely hit the spot! Very chocolatey and served with a milk chocolate earl grey tea ice cream.
