Thank you so much to my good friend Kim Kian for inviting me along to this fantastic event held at Hampton Court Palace this past Saturday. There was loads of Singaporean food and goodies and the weather was great and it made for a fun day out. Singapore Day is an event organised for Singaporeans somewhere out there in the world – previous events were in New York and Melbourne. Where will it be next year?
All my photos (with descriptions!) can be found in my Flickr set.

I am hoping, wishing, dreaming that the next Singapore Day will be in Honolulu. Are there many Singaporean restaurants in London? One of my best travel decisions was in 2005 when I went to Singapore for a few days and stayed in a hotel less than half a block from a 24-hour Singaporean food court. If only such a place existed half a block from where I live now…Thanks for sharing this!

Waw…A Singapore day eh? We don’t even have that here in Hong Kong, and Singapore is just 3 hrs away!…I miss London…when will I get to visit it again…

I’m sad I missed out . . . you can’t beat a visit to Hampton Court when the sun is shining, and all that Singaporean food would’ve been icing on the cake. That “carrot cake” looks tasty . . . is it a bread or an omelet?

Sapuche: There are a few Singaporean/Malaysian restaurants here. Are there many in Honolulu? Yes, I had some good eating when I was last in Singapore (posts in the archives!) and I miss it!
Mochachocolata Rita: Oh, it’s so close to you too! 😀 And Hong Kong! I’ve been wanting to visit for so long!
American in London: Yeah, apparently it was only at the last minute that Singaporeans could bring non-Singaporeans, which is how I got in! I don’t think it was widely advertised for that reason…my friend only heard about it through word of mouth.
The carrot cake is another name for chai tow kueh, a fried daikon radish cake dish with eggs – yummy! I have a cheat’s recipe in the blog archives.

I’m dreaming of the chili crab at Brewerkz, at Merchant Court … (and, what a pity they don’t export their beer!) 😀

I’ve heard of this event and was really curious of what food they actually served. What is the first dish btw?

I really wished I’ve gone! I didn’t think it was going to be that good. I’m really kicking myself!

travelrat: 😀 I’ve not been there but I can imagine just how good that chili crab is! Do you like black pepper crab too?
pigpigscorner: The first dish is kway chap – I guess the noodles aren’t really visible! You can click through on the photo for more details.
Alison: Well, the entertainment they provided was only alright. But yeah, the food wasn’t too bad!

I didn’t try it … I suppose, as a salute to Singapore’s multiculturalism, we ate Indian on the first night, Chinese on the second and had the chili crab on the last.
But, I recommend Brewerkz (if it’s still there) next time you visit Singapore; it’s on Clarke’s Quay, near the Merchant Court Hotel. They have their own micro-brewery, and produce excellent beer, as well as being a good restaurant.
