After the short ceremony at Ealing Town Hall, we all sauntered down towards Ealing Common where Charlotte’s Place is located. To kill time and entertain our party as we took photos on the common, we sat in the gorgeous garden of the adjacent pub and whiled away the time – family meeting family, friends meeting friends.
The time whiled away faster than I expected and soon it was time to saunter around the corner and into the restaurant. We had booked the entire ground floor, with its high ceilings and equally high windows. When we ate here last year for the first time, I fell in love with the room and we had our hearts set on it; luckily, the restaurant is quite popular with group bookings and all we wanted could be sorted: room, seating plans, place cards, personalised menu. As well, our guests didn’t have to choose what they ate in advance but instead selected their meal from a menu on the day – exactly what I like!
I won’t go through each and every item we ate but here are some photos:
Foie Gras & Chicken Liver Parfait
Leek & Goats Cheese Tart
Hanger Steak
Pan Fried Sea Trout Fillet
Strawberry Pannacotta
While the food wasn’t particularly creative or novel, everything was excellent which is impressive for a kitchen cooking for a large group. I’m glad that everyone loved the restaurant and its food.
And we can’t forget the “cake”! We quite liked the idea of having something different and when we happened upon the idea of a macaron pyramid, there was no going back (not that we actually had any ideas before it). And while we, the bride and groom, could not “cut” the “cake” normally, we could share the topmost macaron instead! However, after a full three course meal, we all could barely put down a couple macarons each and so many of our guests went home with a little parcel of macarons for later.
Thank you to all the staff at Charlotte’s Place for making our day very special indeed. Thanks also to Mirna for allowing me to use her photos here (and I’ve put all wedding related photos in this Flickr photoset). And finally, thank you all for your kind words and wishes to us!

I love all these breaks with ‘tradition’.
It’s a long time since my wedding, but I distinctly remember thinking, if anyone says ‘You’ve got to …’, or uses the word ‘appropriate’ again I’ll get on my motor bike & elope!

Thank you again, everyone!
Robert and travelrat, yes, and that’s exactly why we went with something unconventional! My dress was pretty unconventional too – short and grey.

Oooh I’ve been intrigued by macaron pyramid since you tweeted it – great to see the photos! Looks FABULOUS!
Oh and liking the idea of having your reception dinner in nice restaurant instead of the usual bland conference room. Looks really, really lovely. Simple food well cooked in a nice environment with good service. What more can one want?
Any photos of bride and groom? Would love to see one?

kavey: Yes, it was important to me that the food was good and Charlotte’s Place is a restaurant used to group bookings. I also like the idea of ordering off a proper menu rather than having a buffet or a preordered meal. As for us, there are photos about – I’ll send you a link to one!
mathildescuisine: Merci beaucoup! I do have to say I was quite a lazy planner and left lots till the last minute!
Best of luck with your planning – can’t wait to read about it on your blog!
