I love Taiwanese noodles! Why can’t we find this in London?!
Spicy beef noodle soup, but they aren’t very spicy. What they are are massively delicious though!
Regular beef noodles if you can’t take the heat!
Fried pork chop noodle soup. The pork chop comes on the side to prevent it from becoming soggy.
And this is the finest fried pork chop I’ve come across so far. There’s a light and crisp batter (is it made with cornflour?) surrounding the tender and tasty chop. There’s a little five spice in the coating and it’s sprinkled with lots of black pepper.
I can’t believe I forgot to take a photo of the panfried pork dumplings we had on the side.

The two separate servings for the Fried pork chop noodle soup make a lot of sense, I can never fathom why the Japanese drown their delicious tempura pieces in their udon/soba soups.

Those beef noodles look amazing. They remind me of the ones I had in Taipei a few years ago. And I’ve never had anything remotely resembling them since…Lucky you!

A new place has opened up in Chinatown that proclaims to serve authentic Taiwanese food. I tried their spicy beef noodles but they were curiously unspicy, so I’m wondering if that’s how it’s done in Taiwan?

kat: Omg, yes, yes, yes. That pork chop is just FANTASTIC.
Niamh: Do tell me if you find the pork chop - I looooove the pork chop!
racheal: Thanks for dropping by! I’m always trying to find, in London, the food that I grew up on!
Les: That’s true…unless soggy batter is what they were aiming for?!
foodieguide: Yes, sigh…. I’ve only ever had these noodles in Vancouver - I bet they must be extra terrific in Taiwan!
Charmaine: I just ran a search for it and is it Leung’s Legends? Going to have to try it. I also saw that there’s a Taiwanese restaurant in Fulham… No idea about spiciness but I gather that Taiwanese spicy is nothing like Sichuan/Hunanese spicy!

Su-Lin & Charmaine, a Taiwanese friend took me to Formosa once, it was rather good, very family-run and informal. Someone else recommended Taiwan Village to me, and said it was great, but I haven’t been yet. They have a website though - see if they have any Taiwanese beef noodles!

I love Wang’s version of beef noodles. The problem they have at times is inconsistency. The last six times I’ve went, it was 4 out of 6, 4 good, 2 not so good.
It’s a good enough percentage, I suppose.

foodieguide: Thanks for the tips! Definitely want to visit those now! But no beef noodles at Taiwan Village - boohoo!
js: Oh no - didn’t realise their inconsistencies. Ah well, I guess I’m willing to risk it! Thanks for dropping by!
